COTTAGE PROJECT: TWO MORE COTTAGES SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY

COTTAGE PROJECT: TWO MORE COTTAGES SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY

With our Cottage Project, Mission Circle has committed to provide funding and volunteer labor to build transitional sleeping cottages, used as a first step for people who are unhoused or face similar challenges. We are building these cottages because we believe that every individual should have a healthy, safe place to live—even if it’s only temporary. These cottages provide an interim step toward permanent housing, with wrap-around social services to support the journey.

Cottage construction is a team project, led by experienced master carpenters. Any level of skill that you have – in almost any area from pounding nails to painting – will be put to good use. We publicize each build and recruit parish volunteers using bulletin and pulpit announcements, and sign up sheets at tables after Masses. Our next build will be at Rising Tide Ranch in Vista, where we have previously completed three cottages.

Rising Tide Ranch  (https://www.risingtideranchca.com/) is a Christ centered, men only, sober living ranch. The objective of the Peace Village housing is to provide shelter for clients of refugee agencies. They are partnering with Catholic Charities to offer support for new neighbors from Haiti. Stays are planned to be less than 120 days en route to more permanent placement.

The cottages we built in October completed Phase 1 of Unicorn Village, a facility for at-risk youth. For photos of our previous build at Rising Tide Ranch, see: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stjames-stleo/albums/72177720308582538/
