Cottage Project: Two More Cottages Scheduled for October

Cottage Project: Two More Cottages Scheduled for October

With our Cottage Project, Mission Circle has committed to provide funding and volunteer labor to build transitional sleeping cottages, used as a first step for people who are unhoused or face similar challenges. We are building these cottages because we believe that every individual should have a healthy, safe place to live—even if it’s only temporary. These cottages provide an interim step toward permanent housing, with wrap-around social services to support the journey.

Cottage construction is a team project, led by experienced master carpenters. Any level of skill that you have – in almost any area from pounding nails to painting – will be put to good use. Our most recent build in May added two cottages at Rising Tide Ranch. We publicize each build and recruit parish volunteers using bulletin and pulpit announcements, and signup sheets at tables after Masses.   Future cottages will be similar to the ones that so many of you helped us build at Rising Tide Ranch in Vista, and at Peace Village on the grounds of a local church.

Rising Tide Ranch  (https://www.risingtideranchca.com/) is a Christ centered, men only, sober living ranch. The objective of the Peace Village housing is to provide shelter for clients of refugee agencies. They are partnering with Catholic Charities to offer support for new neighbors from Haiti. Stays are planned to be less than 120 days en route to more permanent placement.

The cottages we’re building in October will be at Decelles Unicorn Village For At Risk Youth. Our build partner, Casas de Luz, already has three cottages on this site. The two that Mission Circle will build will complete Phase 1 of Unicorn Village.
